Volunteering Blog #6
Meeting new people and getting closer to the ones I met before
5th week of volunteering was great as usual. Debby and Donna were chilling at the desk and as I walked in, I spotted Bob, the engineer, fixing one of the scanners. Morning wasn't too busy as the only memorable thing that happened was delivering drinks to the 5th floor and getting lsoton the 3rd. I literally don't know why I got lost in the 3rd floor when the imaging rooms were in the 1st. Dumb msitake. Won't do it again. 12-1 was lunchtime so I decided to help out my sister doing errands. However, when I arrived to the volunteer department, I saw her with another volunteer organizing binders and marking off paperwork. Looked pretty boring.
I said I could help out, but Cara said she got it. I chatted with Cara because the other girl was really shy. Afterwhile an awkward silence for about 3 minutes, I decided to speak up. I said what school she went to lol. (Its lowkey like the go-to question you ask to any other high schooler you don't know). She responded, and even asked if I played sports, in which we figured out we both played basketball. We talked about sports and was about to have a deep convo on shoes (bc somehow we both are obsessed with shoes), until I had to be sent back to CT scan. I was literally about ot have a good conversation, but it was ok. Hopefully next week we can be friends.
CT scan wasn't any different, besides the new influx of stories I hear. I heard of Bob's love for rock climbing and Deb's obsession for snap peas. Then, we had the "meat" conversation. Bob talked about how he likes his meat cooked medium, and I shook my head in agreement. Deb liked with well done, and she said her husband likes it bloody rare. But the meat debate quickly ended when we agreed that steak was delicious. We talked about On running shoes, past stories in the hospital, scheduling, and much more. The small office was as hotspot for communication.
(OH and I forgot to write about how I met Shaurya, another fabulous CT scan volunteer. He told me how he also went to Boston's Best Tutor and how he had some colleges in mind. He was very kind, and I hope I get to meet him more often.)
