First shift!

Today was my first shift at Milford Regional Medical Center! I volunteered at the CT scan with four other awesome technicians. Met with a broken, exposed MRI, I was surprised to see a giant spinning machine right next to the puny room I had to work in for the next three hours. My coworkers were so chill and nice, teaching me how to scan (I already had some prior experience with scanning at my internship), escort patients, and a little bit of observing. One of the technicians taught me to press a "CT scan" button to activate the machines and call out a patient's name to bring them to the scanning room. The walk seemed to be two minutes. But for me, it was two minutes to socialize with patients and put a smile on their faces, even though I would never see them again. Talking with the patients and the 4 technicians brought me immense joy. In the small room with computers, controllers, and scanners, we chatted about random topics, ranging from sports and vacation spots to medical aspirations and prior experiences in the hospital. Like Tufts, I loved the experience from day 1. Next Tuesday, I hope to learn even more and share more about my life to others as much as I hear about theirs. If within minutes, I became part of the group; who knows what will happen next?
