Getting better
This Sunday went much better than the previous one! Yesterday, my dad encouraged me to not care about how the kids react to the songs and to block out all thoughts of them being bored. He said to just praise God for the sake of praising Him and not overthink and stress about how the kids feel. I adopted that mindset and worship went much more smoothly. Lena and I only sang Firm Foundation, Graves into Gardens, and Yes I will because we spend a lot of time practicing. We didn't sing any new songs because I wanted to practice and prepare more for those ones. We shut the lights off and sang the three songs, ignoring any stare from the kids. Most of the kids did not sing, but they also didn't talk among themselves, which is improvement from last week. During the last song, the fingers on my left hand were aching in pain. Any guitarist would know the same feeling of pressing down metal strings. Thankfully, I had callouses on my fingers so my fingers didn't hurt too much. I didn't get all the kids engaged, but today was still an improvement. After worship, Lena and I sang some new songs for next week, making additions to the end to spice things up. We vibed and sang together, which was a great experience. Though this journey is not the easiest, I'm glad these sessions are getting better. Next week, we're planning on singing more upbeat songs; hopefully the kids will start being active and engaged.
