Sunday School Blog #3
Completely different than last Sunday...
I walked into the worship room expected to have the same lively experience I had last week. 8 kids sat on the top row of the seats and stared at me blankly. Thrown off by their energy, I swiftly turned on the slide show for the songs. I gave the present to one the kids who won the "Crocs competition" and his face lit up. I felt more assured.
What I didn't mention before was that I planned on singing a new song, one that is more hyped up and energetic. However, Lena, the lady I sing with, came a little late, so we had no practice. I assumed we were going to skip that one for today. After the first song, however, Lena said to sing it. That was when things went downhill.
The first song went pretty rough as literally nobody sang. This new one went even worse. I led the clapping and hand motions, but everyone, with their haggard look on their faces, did what I called the "sloppy clap". They half-heartedly touched the palms of their hands together and gave the same boring look that haunted me weeks before. Today, they brought it back, and I was hurt. Lena was clapping hysterically and vibing so hard, but I couldn't force myself to do that. If the kids didn't have a fun time, I didn't have one.
If this was couple months ago (crazy how time passes!), I would've whined and pouted to my parents to take me out of the worship team because nothing was working. Today was different. It's ok that the kids were bored; to my defense, there were only eight kids. Today was a learning experience; even if I get no feedback for my efforts, I'll continue to persist.
