2024 Christmas Performance!

Welcome to my blog on my experiences in the Christmas concert by the Sunday School program!

It all started in mid-November where I had to pick out 2 songs to practice with the kids to perform in front of the hundreds of parents and adults in the sanctuary. Although the idea was nerve-wracking, I've been performing and playing guitar on this grand stage for years, so I felt assured and excited. I picked out "Hark the Herald Angels Sing"/ "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "Joy to the World", two classics to finish off the 2024 year. (The first song was a combination of both songs, which brought a unique singing experience for us!)

We practiced over the next 3-4 weeks and used my lyrics slideshow to help and by the day of the performance, we were well prepared. The kids used printed out lyric sheets and we were off to sanctuary. I remember the exact experience last year of walking in a single file line up to the stage with hundreds of adults staring at me as I walked in. It was very nostalgic. I perched my music sheets on the stand in front of me (fun fact: I used 4 chord sheets for the first song due to different versions of the lyrics and used a Key of E chord sheet for the second instead of G because I forgot to switch it out) and strummed the first few chords on the sheet. For the second song, one of the kids sang a little too fast, which threw off my strumming, but we eventually presented the songs with ease. It felt relieving as I said "Good job!" to every kid that left the sanctuary. I believe this concert was great and I hope this program progresses in 2025!
