Internship Blog #20-LAST RAYNHAM ONE!
No more Thursday's at Raynham...
This Thursday was my last day at Raynham, and it was pretty hard to let go.
My siblings and I wrote cards the day before and gave them to all our coworkers, like Jill, Laima, and Brunilda. They opened their own unique letter and began to tear up. They laughed, hugged us, and told us how were were so sweet, knowing that they would treasure the words we wrote forever. That made my day.
I knew it was my last day, so I scanned paperwork quickly, and observed patients. I couldnt miss this opportunity. While for most, observing is just looking on to the professionals performing procedures, for me, it was a learning experience. I became intrigued by the new digiized scanning software, where (excuse my lack of professional language) the Dr. Raj use a scanning bar that would act as a camera to form a digital model of the person's mouth on the computer screen. I was interested. And when Dr. Raj said, "You're lucky, you'll have all these tools when you study dentistry. Back in my day, we did everything the old-fashioned way." Even though Brunilda told me it was using a mirror, I immediately knew it was tilting your head to physically look inside the mouth.
I learned about more topics like the "glue" that pieced a crown together and how to apply a sealant. I also saw the drilling process for a crown prep; it's basically using a spinning drill to "shave" parts of the tooth off. It sounds weird, but I like to explain dentistry procedures with common terms because it makes me understand better, as well as you guys, the readers. I'll know the medical terms in dental school.
I saw the etching process of making a crown, where you basically put the crown material in a mold formed by the imprints of a targeted area made out of clay, then "bake" the crown using an ultrasound etch.
Learning new concepts was defitely a great way to end off this experience at one of my internships. The environment and friendly atmosphere felt like home to me, and the workers I've worked with inspire me to be a sociable and inviting dentist. This truly was an amazing experience. It's really hard to let go the friends I made from June, but these internships start and have an end. I'm thankful to God who helped me throughout this whole journey and I trust that He will guide my paths.
